Coimbatore District Chess Championship 2025–2026

A Grand Success with 561 Participants Across 17 Categories

The Coimbatore District Chess Championship 2025–2026, a flagship event of the Coimbatore District Chess Association (CDCA), was held on 12th and 13th April 2025 at Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore. The tournament was conducted with the generous support of Salzer Electronics Limited, the title sponsor.

The championship saw an overwhelming participation of 561 players, making it one of the most vibrant district-level chess events in Tamil Nadu. Players from across the district competed in 17 categories, including Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 25, Girls, and Open categories.

This event served as a qualifying selection tournament for the upcoming Tamil Nadu State Chess Championships 2025. As per CDCA regulations, the top two players in Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 17, and 25 categories, and the top four players in Under 15, 19 (boys and girls), and Open sections earned their berths for the state championship.

The event was smoothly administered under the supervision of International Arbiter Mr. V. Vijayaraghavan, who served as the Chief Arbiter. With support of Arbiters team and voluntaries. 

The tournament received great support from the hosting institution Hindusthan College of Arts and Science and dignitaries.

Notable Guests

Dr. A. Ponnusamy, Principal of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, graced the opening day as the Chief Guest.

Mr. A. Muthusamy, Former District Chess Champion and Quality Control Manager at Salzer Electronics Limited, distributed prizes on the final day.

Prize Distribution & Recognition

Thanks to Salzer Electronics Limited’s sponsorship, a total cash prize of ₹23,500 was awarded in the Open category, covering the Top 12 players. In addition, trophies were presented to the Top 15 Boys and Top 10 Girls in each age category.

CDCA also took pride in honoring veteran players in two special age groups—Above 50 and Above 65 years—recognizing their enduring passion for chess. The presence of a 4-year-old boy and a 5.5-year-old girl was a heartwarming highlight, showcasing chess as a sport that transcends age.
